I have been working on my family geneology for a couple years now. My mother's family is from Eede, Sluis and Lapscheure. My mother's sister married a Joseph Van Landschoot. Her name was Victorine Tillman. I did
not know him, only saw him on a daily basis(almost) since he lived directly across the street from me in Paterson, NJ as I was growing up.I know he only spoke Belgian (Flemish?) as I found out when he died. My mother unfortunately did not talk to her sister and I never knew this was my Aunt Victorine until she died. Victorine Tillman Van Landschoot died on May 20, 1943 and Joseph died on April 5, 1949. They had a
daughter, Gloria, born on April 5, 1922 and died on November 24, 1926.
Joe had a brother who lived with him, but I cannot remember his name or do not know what happened to him after Joe died.
My great uncle Ernest (and I suspect) his brothers and sisters as well were born in Eede. There was a Mathilde Tillman who went to work for an August Monton in Lapsheure. He was a widower and had a few children.
They eventually married and had children of their own and came to the USA.
If you can fill in any information on the Van Landschoot family, I would appreciate it. My maternal grandmother's name was Sabina Coene and she married Camiel Tillman. Is the Tillman, Coene or Monton name familiar?
I am coming to Holland for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. My uncle, Jacob Faasse, was killed over Hoogeloon on Sept. 17, 1944 and I was there last May 4-5 when the Dutch
honored the crewmen in that fateful flight.
I am spending a couple days to explore the above mentioned villages before going on to Nijmegen/Arnhem area. Trying to find out all I can about my ancestors before I go. My father's parents were from
Middleharnis/Overflakkee and I will visit there as well. I have the exact address where they lived before leaving for the USA. I appreciateany help you can give me. Frances Faasse Yuskaitis

I was so happy for the great find to fill in many missing links too. I have a passenger listing that S Tillman came over from Antwerp to Paterson. She must have come over after her husband if this was my grandmother.I have more detailed info; years, etc.
I searched in the church records in Paterson and confirmed her maiden name as Coene. That day I got 15 long pages of christening records which included parents and sponsors names. It was a wealth of information and collecting links.
As children, we loved it when we took a ride to the country, Monsey, NY to visit David Coene's huge farm and apple orchards. His wife Stephanie was always a favorite of mine. Now I know that was my grandmother's brother. They had lots of children. Most much older than I.
We used to visit Paul Tillman and his wife and 2 daughters in Wayne, NJ He also had a farm.
Uncle Ernest Tillman was a bachelor and lived with his mother on Fifth Avenue in Paterson. The house is still there. His mother's maiden name was Adelaide Fleischauer, married to Peter Tillman. "Little Granny" died when I was 5 years old.
I have a wedding photo of Jacobus Wieme with his second wife Clementine Zegers. His first wife, Martha Moens, died of pneumonia. He was left with 8 children. I believe this photo was taken in Holland. Wieme boys came from Sluis. Victorina Tillman (Camiel's sister) married Peter Wieme. Can you add any info to these people or events? I have more details on each (ie, children's names, etc.).
Your time in New York will be very filled I am sure, but if I can visit with you, let me know. I would sure be happy to have you meet me in Lapscheure/Eede.
Looking forward to your photos. Fran

My guess would be that Joseph is the second from the right with the mustache and arms folded. As I said before, I only saw Joseph from across the street. I never knew Victorina and Joseph were my aunt and uncle because my mother did not talk to her or him. It was a shame. I remember Aunt Victorine sitting outside the house all the time and I wondered why this lady was always watching me. Now I know. Gloria was born in 1922 and I was born in 1933. I am sure I reminded her of her only daughter.
I will look up the grave sites when I get down to Jersey. That would have to be during the week as the office is not open on Sunday. Will be happy to take the pictures for both our records. Joseph was buried with Victorine and Gloria. His name will not show on the stone because my Uncle Pete would not allow it. I remember that was quite an argument my mother had with him at the time of Joseph's death. That was when I became aware of our relationship. He wanted to be buried with Victorine and Gloria.
The only picture I have of Victorine is when she was a teen. My grandparents, Camiel and Sabina, are with Victorine, Pete, Malvina, Josephine and my mother in the highchair. I will send it tomorrow. I am trying to figure out who is who on the 3 brothers pic. Will study it more. The wedding picture looks like Phillebert was in the military and well decorated.
I have a day off from work tomorrow so I will send more info and see what pictures I have. Who will be coming to New York with you in August? Keep in touch. Fran

Joseph is on the right of the tombstone and to his left is his wife Victoria (Victorina) and their daughter Gloria. I told you before there was a real family problem, which I can tell you about when I see you. My Uncle Peter Tillman who bought that plot for his sisters did not want Joseph buried there. My mother convinced him to let Joe be buried by his wife and daughter which was his last request. My uncle finally said okay but his last name was not to be put on the stone. I went right to the cemetery and saw the register so I can verify that they are buried there and on those dates.
The custodian at the cemetery told me Gustav and Edmond are both in the same plot. I have to go to New Jersey on Friday to see my grandson in a play so I will go down early so I can go to both cemeteries to get more info. I will be able to see the register myself and get a little more detail; dates, etc.
I am going to go to Calvary Cemetery too. So I will check out the other Van Landshoot as well as the Wieme family who are all buried there. There are other Tillman's in Calvary, including my great grandmother and great grandfather. He was Peter Tillman and she was Adelaide de Fleishauer.
I am still combing that site you sent me for relatives. I still cannot find Sabina Coene's parents. Whatever you can tell me would be appreciated.
Thank you for the lovely photo. Now you must tell me who are these handsome young men and the pretty lady in the middle? Is one yourself?
New York is no problem for me. Paterson is about 20 miles from NYC. I could stay an overnight by relatives down there. I am 2 hours away in the Poconos. My mother's cousin, who is a Wieme descendant, said she would come in with me. Her grandmother was Victorine Tillman, my grandfather's sister , who married Peter Wieme. Joseph's wife, Victorine was named after her.
What time will you be arriving at the hotel on the 29th? What do you plan for that day? Dinner with us? Or would the next day be better to meet.? Let me know.
I am really looking forward to meeting you. This has been so exciting finding you and this info. I was so busy this weekend that I did not get to contact the computer people.
